Get Yourself Outdoors!

Do you spend a lot of your free time in front of the TV, staring at a computer screen or glued to your phone? Join the electronic entertainment club! Have you ever stopped to add up all those idle hours? Try it, with the average Brit spending over 37% of their precious time staring at one screen or another, I bet the number will shock you.

Why not shake things up a bit? Now that the weather seems to be breaking (at last), it’s time to get outside and soak up some vitamin D. There’s nothing better to shake off the funk of Winter than to get yourself moving in the fresh air. It’s also a great way of dealing with a bout of depression.

After spending days-on-end hiding from the cold, we need to reconnect with the world. We’ve been shut inside our houses, insulated from nature – let’s embrace the freedom to explore!

Get yourself outdoors: try a new sport, go for a walk, run, do some gardening, walk to the local shop, visit a friend, ride a bike, wash the car, wrap up warm and have a BBQ, take the dog for a walk (borrow one if you don’t have one) – visit the places and do the things that Winter prohibits.

I now how difficult it can be to drag yourself away from screens and get yourself outdoors, but try – even if it’s only for ten minutes. You’ll be amazed at just how much better you’ll feel. Our bodies were not designed to be indoors sitting still for hours on end, so revel in their awesomeness and give them the fresh air and exercise they crave.

Try and channel your inner child. Remember how frustrated you used to get if you had to sit still for long periods of time? Or how much you yearned to go outside and run around on a rainy day? That’s how your body feels every, single day! It is desperate to move, breathe in fresh air and see something other than our screens.

Spring is nature at it’s best, fresh starts and new beginnings – make one of them a healthier, happier you – get yourself outdoors!

Cheerio.
