Heatwaves, Punting And Not Feeding The Ducks | Weekly Vlog Number 3

As I write this I am slowly melting into a overheated, sweaty mess. The fan is blowing warm air in my general direction, the air outside is stiller than a graveyard at midnight and every drink I make myself is lukewarm before I get halfway through it. If this heatwave continues there will be nothing left of me but a pile of dehydrated bones and a puddle.

Now I know this weather is abnormal (34 degrees!!!!), but it never ceases to amaze me how rubbish we are at coping with the heat in Britain. For months we look forward to warmer days, sitting in the sunshine and BBQ’s, yet at the first sign of sun we hide away indoors bemoaning the fact that it’s too hot.

However, I do think the extra weight I’m carrying is exacerbating the situation – I can’t remember feeling the heat this much in my slimmer days. So, despite the fact that we had a few indulgent days, I was pretty relieved pleased with the weigh in this week.

We did have a busy time work-wise this week and we didn’t do our usual ‘sit in the sun and drink beer all day’. We walked the longer routes to get into town, Andrew STILL hasn’t finished polishing the boat so he put in a lot of elbow grease which made me feel guilty so I deep cleaned some of the boat and we went for another day trip to Canterbury.

Once again Canterbury was a big success. We decided to go for a punt along the river where we met Dave the swan and learned that feeding ducks bread (especially of the white variety) isn’t just bad for them, it can actually kill them. Due to it’s lack of nutrition, the birds develop a disease which slowly starves them to death. So keep the bread for your sandwiches.

We also found a pretty good deal for lobster, steak and fizz at the Abode hotel. Did we go for it? What do you think?!

I do believe that this extra flurry of activity has helped with the weight control and I’ll certainly be keeping that in mind moving forward on my weight loss journey.

On the subject of weight loss and general health, I’ve had my chest X-ray results back (at last!) and my chest is now clear of infection so there is hope that I’ll be able to start actually exercising – *she swoons at the thought of exercising in this heat*. We are still no further forward with the mystery that is my stomach problem, but at least one health issue has been put on the back burner. I say back burner because I’m still coughing and we’re none the wiser as to why.

This next week I think we’ll be attempting to decorate the house. or at least making a start. But if this heatwave continues we may very well change our plans to ‘slobbing in a sweaty mess’. I’ll let you know what I get up to.

I hope you enjoyed weekly vlog number 3 and I’ll catch you soon.

I’m an equally dehydrated sweaty mess over here in the Algarve too, Michelle! But I guess I should be used to it after 31 years living here lol! That dinner looked absolutely divine, by the way!
