The UK Blog Awards 2017 And The Need To Be Loved

Last year I asked, well lets face it – begged, my readers to vote for The Barefaced Chic to be shortlisted for a UK Blog Award. And you came through for me, I made it to the last ten! So when I was nominated again this year (thank you muchly kind readers), I was happier than a pig in the proverbial.

But why? Why do I care so much about an award? I have done a lot of work on myself to change how I define success to internal measures, and not external validation – and it was a hard slog. Yet the thought of not necessarily winning, but being shortlisted has me almost hyperventilating.

You know, I think maybe it’s because I have such passion for this blog of mine, such hope for its future, such an overwhelming need to create, and such absolute belief in the amazingness of mature women. I see our futures as bright, shining examples for our daughters. We CAN show the world that life not only begins at 40, it bloody well rocks! And how amazing would it be to, once again, have a few mature women strutting their stuff on the red carpet and showing the 20 somethings that we too have a whole lot to say?!

But it’s all very well me loving this blog, there is still a deep-seated need in me to know that you love this blog too. In a purely platonic, non-creepy way I hasten to add 😉

If you haven’t heard of the UK Blog Awards, then here’s a snippet from their about page:

We thought it was about time that individual bloggers and companies received recognition for all their well earned innovative opinions and content!

The UK Blog Awards has been created to recognise true viral style and creative excellence across a variety of 16 UK industries.

The Awards are sponsored by some pretty big names, including: Odeon,  Huffington Post, Roast and EE to name but a few. The judges are all highly respected, and a pretty big deal in their area of expertise. So for the blogging community this is huge people, HUGE!

As much of an honour winning a trophy from the UK Blog Awards 2017 would be, what I think I need is the knowledge that I’m reaching my readers. I want this space to be a virtual haven for mature women, being shortlisted means that the very women I am trying to inspire/entertain/help/nag have taken the time to cast their vote. A vote that says I’m on the right track, I’m getting it right, I’m worth a minute of someone’s precious time.

So if you click onto the pages of The Barefaced Chic and like what you read, will you vote? You can vote by clicking the ‘Vote Now’ Link below, it takes less than a minute. Thank you in advance for letting me know that I’m not talking to myself. Although I do that – a lot anyway 😜

Voting is now closed. Big thanks to everyone who took the time to vote!!!

Ah thank you so much Suzy. I’m up against some stiff competition (over 500 entries in my category) so I’ll need every vote I can lay my hands on!
