Well, what a night that was! I had high hopes when I boarded the train in Wales and journeyed to the 2018 UK Blog Awards, not for returning home with a trophy but for the night itself. Previous years have seen some jaw-dropping transformations of hotels, wonderful food, great entertainment and an amazing buzz. This year, I’m gutted to say, fell flat on it’s rather badly organised face.
For those of you who don’t know, the UK Blog Awards is one of the most prestigious awards in the UK. To be shortlisted is an achievement, to be highly commended amazing and to win phenomenal! Please don’t get me wrong, I am incredibly grateful and still somewhat shocked to have heard The Barefaced Chic’s name announced as the one and only highly commended blog in the lifestyle category, I do however feel that the whole evening was a bit of a letdown.
A lot of us had travelled from far-afield, stayed overnight in hotels, bought new outfits and changed our plans in order to attend, all for no food (unless you count a very limited supply of taster spoons), very limited alcohol (some attendees had no celebratory fizz at all), poor planning, poor execution (if you sat more than three rows back you could not hear a word that was said), badly designed props (at one point both visuals fell off the wall) and, probably the worst snub of all, the winners didn’t even get a trophy!
All-in-all it was the worst event I have ever attended and I doubt very much I will attend next year, which makes me incredibly sad.
On a brighter note, Catherine won in the Fashion & Beauty category for the second year in a row which just goes to show that mature bloggers are being taken far more seriously. Once again I would like to thank anyone who voted for me, it really does mean a lot and I hope I have not come across as ungrateful in this post – nothing could be further from the truth. I am simply painfully aware that this year’s blog awards may have been the very first time that some bloggers attended, and how damn disappointed they must feel!
