How To Style A Simple Grey Coat Fashion Over 50

I can’t say that I’ve ever been a massive fan of grey. Even in my ‘I will wear dull colours every day of my life’ phase, grey wasn’t a colour I was drawn too. But lately, it’s been calling to me. I even styled head-to-toe grey and silver for my recent Over 40 Collective collaboration (try saying that three times in a row 😜)

Yet we are in a brand new year, and what better time to seek out a bargain in the sales and try something a little bit different. So when I spied this grey coat on sale in New Look, I decided to grab the bull by the horns, or rather the coat by the collar, and extend my tiny grey wardrobe. I was then left wondering:

How to style a classic, but rather simple grey coat?

My first instinct was to pair it with black, a path I’m sure I’ll wander down in the future, but when this sparkly, chunky rose gold jumper caught my eye I found myself reaching for its snuggliness. I teamed the coat and jumper with grey trousers, brown knee-high boots and one of my favourite, practical bags. to add a burst of colour I threw on this gorgeous scarf that I picked up in a tiny boutique, but I left it off in a few of the pics just so you can see the difference it makes.

Today’s #ootd couldn’t be any cosier. The grey soft coat is infinitely wearable and the roll neck sweater is simple – but warm! The addition of an unusual scarf gives the look a bit of pizzaz.

Looking to the colder months, I’ve been shopping for designer inspired ruffle sleeved jumpers, knitwear which is on trend for the winter months. I’ll let you know what I find.

Update: Yes I did completely forget to snip the stitch on the back pleat, yes it makes the coat hang weirdly and yes I’m an idiot. I blame the gin 😜

Cheerio.

I say YES to the light grey Michelle… I have to say that as I have a coat that’s almost exactly the same!! I’m also so glad that you didn’t put black with it – soft grey is a beautiful colour when put with other soft or warm colours, as you’ve done here – black just deadens it. The colour really, really suits you as your Xmas party outfit proved so please wear it more!!

Hair is looking pretty darn fabulous too, beautiful lady 🙂

    Ah thanks Catherine!
I do see far more grey in my future, that’s for sure. I am also still loving my hair, although my fringe grows so darn fast!

Love grey with all shades of brown, camel, pink to cognac. I’ve just bought a charcoal grey coat from Laura Ashley, fits like a glove 🙂
P.S. you did snip the stitch on the back pleat, didn’t you? LOL
    Love the scarf 🙂

Always been an aficionado of pairing grey with rose. Delicate but dramatic nonetheless.

A lovely silver grey coat, looks very lux with the rose gold jumper. I actually wore a coat for a couple of years before realising I needed to snip the back slit!
