I can’t say that I’ve ever been a massive fan of grey. Even in my ‘I will wear dull colours every day of my life’ phase, grey wasn’t a colour I was drawn too. But lately, it’s been calling to me. I even styled head-to-toe grey and silver for my recent Over 40 Collective collaboration (try saying that three times in a row 😜)
Yet we are in a brand new year, and what better time to seek out a bargain in the sales and try something a little bit different. So when I spied this grey coat on sale in New Look, I decided to grab the bull by the horns, or rather the coat by the collar, and extend my tiny grey wardrobe. I was then left wondering:
How to style a classic, but rather simple grey coat?
My first instinct was to pair it with black, a path I’m sure I’ll wander down in the future, but when this sparkly, chunky rose gold jumper caught my eye I found myself reaching for its snuggliness. I teamed the coat and jumper with grey trousers, brown knee-high boots and one of my favourite, practical bags. to add a burst of colour I threw on this gorgeous scarf that I picked up in a tiny boutique, but I left it off in a few of the pics just so you can see the difference it makes.
Today’s #ootd couldn’t be any cosier. The grey soft coat is infinitely wearable and the roll neck sweater is simple – but warm! The addition of an unusual scarf gives the look a bit of pizzaz.
Looking to the colder months, I’ve been shopping for designer inspired ruffle sleeved jumpers, knitwear which is on trend for the winter months. I’ll let you know what I find.

Update: Yes I did completely forget to snip the stitch on the back pleat, yes it makes the coat hang weirdly and yes I’m an idiot. I blame the gin 😜
