Dressed Down Festive / Yellow Long Skirt And Sparkle Top

Well, the chest infection from hell still has me in its clutches so I haven’t really left the house at all for a few weeks. I am beginning to wonder if I was meant to hibernate through winter; the cold weather certainly doesn’t agree with me.

So rather than share with you my sheer amazement at just HOW many boxes of tissues I’ve gone through in a week, I thought I’d share this yellow long skirt and sparkle top that I wore a few weeks ago for an early Christmas get-together.

It wasn’t a particularly fancy do but I knew I would be mixing not only with friends but with business associates and possible future clients. The lunch was also being held at a horticultural college which led to another dilemma: it’s not easy to look festive when you have to wear sensible boots!

So, the question was: how could I pull off a dressed down outfit that would still come across as somewhat festive, look professional and not end up looking like farmer Brown’s wife at an annual meeting of the potato lovers guild of Kent. Which doesn’t, to my knowledge, exist but I love potatoes and it’s the first thing that fell into my head – I blame the illness (or the gin).

What I needed was a comfortable dressed down festive look with pieces that I could adapt to different occasions and that would fit with my existing wardrobe.

I also had to bear in mind that I was on the boat with a limited wardrobe, and didn’t really want to buy anything that I knew I wouldn’t wear again. Enter good old M&S who seem to have upped their game no end this season. So much so that I’m teetering on the edge of scrapping my ‘they’re not really for me‘ stance.

Despite my thoughts on yellow not really being my colour, it seems to be everywhere this season. So I decided to not just dip my toe in the water but dive in head first and purchase a skirt in almost the identical shade of yellow as my much loved (and over-photographed judging by the last few outfit posts) coat.

I felt elegantly comfortable all day in my dressed down festive look. The skirt has an elasticated waist which was ideal for the much sitting, standing, walking, eating and quaffing of fizz that I indulged in, and I do feel it’s an outfit that could take me from lunch to evening with a change of shoes.

I can also see me teaming the skirt with quite a few pieces that I already own and getting quite a lot of mileage out of it – when I eventually shake this chest infection and actually manage to get dressed and leave the darn house!

What do you think? Do you sometimes have dressing dilemmas? How do you mix styles?

Coat – New Look (out of stock in yellow at the moment but available in other colours)
Top – M & S
Skirt – M & S
Boots – Past season but these are similar and on offer at the moment
Bag – Ben de Lisi (out of stock at the moment but do keep checking)
Scarf – Past season

In other news, I’ve been nominated for a UK Blog Award 2018 in both the lifestyle and vlogger category! Voting is now open and you would make me one very happy bunny if you could take a minute to vote for me in one or even both categories 😘
