About The Barefaced Chic

The Barefaced Chic is an imaginative lifestyle blog for mature women with a mission to bring its readers a frequent dose of lifestyle, fashion, beauty, sound advice and laughs. And, in this sometimes cookie cutter world, the aim of The Barefaced Chic is to be the chocolate, raspberry crème brûlée!

With a fresh approach, within the features on this blog, mature women are encouraged to celebrate themselves, love their quirks and feel happy in their own skin: hence The Barefaced Chic.

Warning – this blog does not believe in ‘age appropriate’ it believes in ‘person appropriate’ – if you’re looking for tips on dressing for your age then this may not be the blog for you. Want tips on how to dress for you? Come on in, the water’s fine!

WHY THE BAREFACED CHIC WAS CREATED

Until a light bulb went off in it’s creator’s mind, The Barefaced Chic was originally destined to be a fashion / beauty / lifestyle blog chronicling one woman’s journey to hit her 50’s and beyond looking and feeling her best. That’s still a big part of this blog – but now it’s so much more.

The light bulb moment went a little bit like this:

Hey you, this is the voice of your subconscious. Put down that cuppa and listen up! Starting a kick-ass blog for sassy women with a bring-it-on attitude to ageing would be awesome. But what about all those women out there who aren’t in a great place in their lives? The women wearing cloaks of beige invisibility, the ones who don’t want to stand out in a crowd, the ones who don’t realise their own self-worth, the ones living their lives pleasing everyone else, the ones who are really struggling with the ageing process. That used to be you, you numpty!
So how about a blog that celebrates sass but also helps women evolve into the person they were meant to be – the woman they would have been if life hadn’t got in the way? Good idea huh? You’re welcome. Now pick up that cuppa I’m parched!

So The Barefaced Chic morphed. During the creative period there were a few manifestations, but now it’s here in glorious technicolour, ready to shake up the internet with it’s slightly off-the-wall sense of style. Whether you’re after the latest anti-ageing tips, or need help and advice on figuring out the ‘real you’ it offers a helping hand.

If this blog can sweep away a tiny piece of your self-doubt and help you enjoy your life, no matter how many candles are on your cake, then it has served its purpose.

ABOUT MICHELLE

I’m a 50 plus Welsh woman, *insert sheep joke of your choice here* living in South Wales with my more than slightly batty husband Andrew (AKA Mr Chic). I have two children, Daniel 30 and Rachel 24 – I also have ‘adopted’ Rachel’s other half Ross. So I really have three children (four if you count Mr Chic). Confused yet?
I travel the country extensively for business: both Mr Chic and I are trained business consultants and have more than a handful of businesses between us – what can I say, I love variety in my life. I am, without doubt, a packing Goddess!

So why The Barefaced Chic and why now?

Being blessed throughout the majority of my life with the ‘Peter Pan’ gene, I’ve never hesitated to share my age with anyone who showed the slightest bit of interest. My revelation was usually followed by – but you can’t be or, you look much younger! Which, of course, I loved.

Then, at the age of 42, I met my other half and we embarked on an amazing, romantic, fun and fizz filled journey from courtship to wedded bliss – also know as eating junk, not exercising, drinking too much and generally riding that heady roller coaster towards ill-health, obesity and all the glorious complications that these two little beauties bestow.

Suddenly the compliments dried up. I not only looked my age, but boy did I feel it – and then some! Piling two and a half stone onto my rather small frame not only gave me a chin that Jabba the Hut would have been proud of, but every joint in my body ached, my skin was in a terrible state, my hair was limp and lifeless and I was not a happy bunny.

With my 50th birthday hurtling towards me faster than Usain Bolt I decided to take the bull by the horns, get off my more than generous backside and try to hit that milestone looking and feeling my best. I designed my own Not That Weigh, This Way healthy eating plan, and decided to put my Face The Facts & Firm It facial exercise system back into action. I also wanted to share my journey with you, warts and all – I wanted to feel good in my own skin again: hence The Barefaced Chic.

So pull up a seat, strap on your seat belt and join me in my fight to hit a healthy 50 and beyond. It should be one heck of a ride!

Topics I Write About

I love fashion, but I don’t slavishly follow it so there will be plenty of quirky outfits. I love to travel and sharing my adventures via blogs post and vlogs.  I have a love of all things beauty related, so expect a few reviews and the odd tutorial. I love a bargain and am always on the lookout for charity shop / thrift store finds.

I’m of an age where I know who I am and how I got to be ‘me’ so I’ll also be throwing some life lessons and self-development posts into the mix.

I don’t believe that when we hit a certain age, as women we should feel obliged to dress ‘age appropriately’. That doesn’t mean you’ll see me in mini skirts, but that’s a personal choice not a choice that’s been forced onto me by society. Wear what you like and what makes you feel good – to hell with the ‘rules’!

Life Is A Journey

This blog of mine isn’t only about all things lifestyle/fashion/beauty related. You see there once was a woman with no confidence, she hid at social gatherings, wore clothes that made her blend into the crowd, a complete ‘people-pleaser’ – a sad little bird trapped in a cage of her own making with a song in her soul but no voice with which to sing it. Then she hit 40 and took a good, hard look at her life and decided to change, to reinvent herself and become the woman that she knew she was meant to be.

It was one Hell of a journey but she made it. She is now a confident, happy woman who sings her song with gusto –  that woman is me, and my dream is to help other song-less birds. Within the posts on this blog, my hope is that you will find a tune, or even a note that resonates and that it will help you find your very own song to sing.

So That’s Me And This Blog Of Mine In a Nutshell

I hope you find my ramblings entertaining and that you join me in my attempt to age with a whole heap of attitude!
